WHERE WE CARE FOR PATIENTS
Upper limb prosthetic care is a highly specialized aspect of general prosthetic and orthotic care. The small number of upper limb prosthetic patients, the highly refined fabrication processes involved in creating this type of device, the rapidly changing technology in upper limb prosthetics and the well-established need for therapy as a part of this patient care process, all lead to the fact that very few traditional O&P companies successfully provide any large volume of upper limb prosthetic devices in a given year. Upper limb prosthetic care is truly a niche within a niche in the healthcare industry.
Because of the nature of this highly specialized care, upper limb prosthetic patients often struggle to find highly experienced care givers in their geographic area. In fact, it is often necessary for these patients to travel hundreds of miles to seek care from a more knowledgeable upper limb prosthetist. Many times, this distance becomes an insurmountable barrier, leading patients to decide not to utilize any prosthetic device.
These are EXACTLY the reasons that Handspring has chosen a very different approach to where we care for our clients. Handspring certainly has the traditional prosthetic facility locations and capabilities that are seen throughout North America, but we go even further.
